Is the Bible truely what it claims to be?
Biblical Prophecy
Science & the Bible
The Bible is drastically different than any other book, ever written. The
information contained within its pages makes claims that no man could make.
While the Bible is not a science book, its author does talk about things that
science can verify. The links to the right show several passages where the
author of the Bible says things that men would not know for millennia.
Knowledge of the details of the world that He says He created is only what is
to be expected of God, but it also attests to the Bible as His revelation about
Himself to men. In a relevant passage God says:

Isaiah 55:9 (NIV3)
As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your
ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

The Bible also contains many prophecies. The prophecies contained in the
Bible provide many details of things to come hundreds and even thousands of
years before they happened. The Bible also establishes a standard of accuracy
that its prophecies and prophets are to be held to, that no man could attain.
The standard is 100% accuracy, and the penalty for giving false prophecy was
death. The reason for this humanly unattainable standard and dire penalty is
that it was never supposed to be men that were the source of prophecy. The
Bible is full of phrases such as, the Lord spoke, The Lord called, The Lord said
and the word of the Lord. God said that it was Him that was foretelling what is
foretold in prophecy.

Isaiah 46:8-10
8 "Remember this, fix it in mind,
take it to heart, you rebels.

9 Remember the former things, those of long ago;
I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like me.

10 I make known the end from the beginning,
from ancient times, what is still to come.
I say: My purpose will stand,
and I will do all that I please.

In the New Testament, Jesus prophesies many things. Notice the voice with
which he speaks. He says that He is foretelling the future. This is just another
hint to the fact that Jesus is God Himself.

John 13:19
"I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will
believe that I am He.

John 14:29
I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will
believe.

The Bible is starkly different than any other book. It claims to be the word of
God and then backs up those claims with accuracy and knowledge of nature
and the future. One of the biggest and most important things about the Bible is
that it tells the story of God's great love for us expressed most powerfully in
the advent, crucifixion and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. There are
many prophecies about God's messiah. The link to the right describes two such
prophecies.

If the Bible is what it claims, and does what it claims, then it is the word of
God, written by Him to tell us about Him and His great love.
