Entropy & Biblical Prophecy
Psalms 102:25&27 (NIV 3)
25 In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of your hands.
26 They will perish, but you remain;
they will all wear out like a garment.
Like clothing you will change them
and they will be discarded.
27 But you remain the same,
and your years will never end.
Entropy says that ordered systems tend toward disorder. Lawns not diligently
mown will revert to the lower energy state of shaggy weedy disorder. Our warm
high energy Earth will one day cease to be so. Science tells us that the universe as
a whole, full of galaxies which are in turn full of stars will spread further and further
apart, until eventually there is not enough gas and dust to form any more stars. In a
word, the heavens and the Earth will simply wear out. This was not foreseen by
science. In fact for most of scientific history, the universe was taken to be eternal.
Only with the theory of general relativity, confirmed by an abundance of evidence,
was a beginning imagined. Since a beginning implies an end, science was forced to
consider what kind of end? Entropy simply makes too much sense to ignore. 3000
years ago the Bible claimed that the heavens and the Earth would pass away. It did
not seem to be true! Season to season, everything seems to go on without change.
Science was caught in this as well. The Author of the Bible knew what no body else
new and stated it thousands of years before we could perceive it.
It is also noteworthy that when science faced the music, it ended up with cold dark
aloneness, but when the creator told us, he also promised that He would never pass
away. If we take God at His word our future is brighter than our present! Only God
can offer a true future of hope and life.
