Unto Us A Son is Given
One of the most beautiful prophesies concerning the Lord Jesus is found in
Isaiah 9. This passage is a promise God made to His people. To see the whole
Beauty of this promise and the context in which it was given, read Isaiah 8:16
through Isaiah 9:7. A portion of the story is shown below with the names of
Jesus emboldened:
Isaiah 9:1-6 2
1 Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who
were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun
and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor
Galilee of the Gentiles, by the way of the sea, along the

2 The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death
a light has dawned.

3 You have enlarged the nation
and increased their joy;
they rejoice before you
as people rejoice at the harvest,
as men rejoice
when dividing the plunder.

4 For as in the day of Midian's defeat,
you have shattered
the yoke that burdens them,
the bar across their shoulders,
the rod of their oppressor.

5 Every warrior's boot used in battle
and every garment rolled in blood
will be destined for burning,
will be fuel for the fire.

6 For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace
Some cults such as the Jehovah's Witnesses try to say that the name "Mighty
God" should be translated "a mighty god." Let us look at the original text to
see which is correct. The following is a literal translation by Green1 of Isaiah

Unlike 5702, It was like 5703)
Two things are important to note here: First, the name "Everlasting
" can mean nothing else besides God; second, The word pair 410
& 1368 are the very same word pair that Isaiah uses in chapter 10:21-22
to describe the
Mighty God of Israel. When asked about this verse,
some will try to say that Jesus was "a" God. That position is refuted by
many scriptures, which say that there is no God besides our heavenly
Father. The Hebrew culture was decidedly and definitely monotheistic;
The Old Testament did not allow for ANY other Gods.

If the cults that deny the deity of Jesus want to try to add words to the
scriptures, they need be careful of the warning given in Revelation

Revelation 22:18-19
18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this
book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the
plagues described in this book. 19 And if anyone takes words away
from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share
in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this
